Abstract

The IoT has grown into a new and promising technology that allows seamless communication with billions of connected devices. The IoT has entered a number of fields with no lack of success stories and areas of escalating concern, like smart towns, health, industrial automation and transportation, and issues involving latency, scalability, privacy and security. It's not that there's no reason, it's just that traditional cloud-based architectures are not capable of real-time processing in today's IoT world. Traditional cloud-based architectures just don't fulfil the current processing needs of the modern IoT environment for various reasons. This paper will emphasize recent advances in IoT architectures, integration with edge computing, and edge computing security mechanisms. A thorough literature review is performed to find research gaps and to design a safe environment for the edge supported smart city applications within the IOT.The study underscores the need for lightweight authentication, Blockchain-focused trust management systems, and AI-driven threat detection to bolster the IoT system protection.
